Who I am
My name is Kevin L.. I have been a software engineer for more than fifteen years, mostly in artificial intelligence and insurance. And I am a sailor.
Weather routing has fascinated me since childhood. I was a sailing instructor during my studies, then sailed a lot: cruising, racing, delivering boats. For more than five years I have lived and worked on board my sailing boat, a 1978 Jeanneau Melody berthed in Port Vauban, Antibes, where I am an active member of the Société des Régates d'Antibes. In 2026 I mostly raced classic yachts, on board the 8mJI NiN.
Why Saily WR
Planning a route seriously means checking several weather models, each with its own runs, resolution and area. It means downloading tens of gigabytes of data, then finding software able to use them. Few tools do it, most are ill-suited, and the exercise soon becomes long and inefficient.
So I built the tool I was missing. For several years, Saily WR was a personal project: trials, experiments, successive versions used only for my own passages. Today, I am opening it to everyone.
I am its only developer, working on it in my spare time.
Free, no sign-up
Saily WR is free and needs no sign-up: an account is optional, and the app works just the same without one. I want to make the project known and put it in the hands of those it can help. This choice holds as long as the infrastructure costs stay reasonable for the number of visitors.
